Summer time…

Summer time…

It has been a while since I’ve added any new info here, so let me try and catch up on a few things.  I officially completed my first year with RGVAS this past February, it was a very exciting experience and I’m still working on ways to improve the class.

This past spring one of my students entered the art competition at the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show and won 3rd place in her division. The majority of the project was completed during our classes together. The subject of the drawing was chosen by the student and we worked together on adjusting scale and proportions. This was her first competition and the largest drawing to date. I look forward to having my students enter more competitions throughout the year.

This was June we had a very successful summer camp at the studio.  From 8am – 5pm the students were involved in multiple activities from dancing to arts & crafts (the full list of activities can be found on the RGVAS website). I was in charge of the group at the end of the day (art is a good way to help kids slow down). For this first summer camp I had the class work on a painting of a koi fish. Working with 12 students aged 6-11 all at once is no easy task  but they did a great job and worked really well together. To help the students with the project I drew the outline of the fish and let them create the background and decide the color combinations (with a little help from me).

Below are a few examples of the projects.

Next camp is in July, sign up and join the fun! call 956-412-1314
